Focus
I believe my education and music should
never clash. Thankfully, I have been able to keep a balance. I have
always desired to become a medical doctor and if my wish is granted, I
will still do music by the side. However, music remains my first and
only love.
Olamide
I used to sing and record covers of
different songs, which I post on Instagram. In August last year, I
uploaded a particular video of a song and realised that Olamide had
liked all my videos. People erroneously thought I tagged Olamide in the
video but I have never believed in tagging celebrities to get
recognition. A few minutes later he sent me a direct message requesting
for my phone number. At first, I thought it was a scam until I confirmed
that it was indeed Olamide’s official Instagram account. I sent my
number and we began talking.
Big break
From the moment Olamide sent me a direct
message, I knew something was going to happen; I am very intuitive.
Getting signed on with YBNL Records is a blessing that gave me my big
break.
YBNL Princess
I am very humbled and grateful to be
YBNL’s princess. This time last year, I was just the girl next door.
Before I was discovered, I had never been to Lagos because I was based
in Lokoja, Kogi State. When I was invited to Lagos, I was thrilled. I
reckoned that even if we failed to strike a deal, at least I would have
fulfilled my ultimate dream to visit Lagos. I also planned to secure
gigs.
Fame
By God’s grace, I would be able to
handle fame, money and male attention. That way, I will always stay
grounded and remain connected to my roots.
Competition
The sky is big enough for every artiste
to fly, so I see and have no competition. The only competition I have is
myself. I am not even threatened by other Nigerian female artistes
because I feel we are all working towards achieving one particular goal
Projects
I don’t have any album in the works yet. However, I do have a single titled Jabole,
which I wrote when I was 14. It was inspired by a crush I had on a
certain boy who I was too shy to talk to. I am extremely happy that my
label boss picked that song out of all the songs I have ever written. I
love the innocence in the lyrics of the song. I have written over 300
songs even though I have stopped counting. I could write songs for other
artistes in the near future. Sometimes, when I write a song, I can
immediately tell that the song belongs to someone else aside from me. At
other times, when another person writes a song for me, I can
immediately connect with it.
Temmie Ovwasa has been rated by Nigerian and Foreign Music Listener that she might take the place of Nigeria International Singer Asa if she continue working hard and get a professional touch on her bit and song.
